A new report on the Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (Scada) system and other critical safety features of Dublin's port tunnel has concluded the tunnel now exceeds best practice internationally, writes Tim O'Brien.
The review was undertaken by Martin J Kelly of MAK II, the consultant who produced a critical review of the Scada system in October 2007.
The National Roads Authority commissioned the report at the behest of the Oireachtas Committee on Transport, which had requested that the authority consult Mr Kelly as author of the 2007 report.
In his report, given to members of the committee on Monday last, Mr Kelly said enhancements made to the systems during 2008 and 2009 had significantly improved “the performance, the responsiveness and the reliability of the Scada and other critical systems in the Dublin Port Tunnel”.
He said the performance of these systems was “comparable to that of other tunnel control facilities around Europe and exceeds industry guidelines.”
An NRA spokesman said it was pleased with the result.
