THE POSITION of a sign warning motorists of a crash scene was “totally inadequate”, according to a witness in the trial of a man charged in connection with the deaths of two emergency workers killed at the scene.
Niall Shannon (21), Lenamore Ballylongford, Co Kerry, denies dangerous driving causing the deaths of Garda Brian Kelleher and fireman Michael Liston at Borrigone, Askeaton, Co Limerick, on February 25th, 2007.
At Limerick Circuit Court yesterday, civil engineer Ger O’Keeffe for the defence, expressed the view that Mr Shannon would have no line of sight of the earlier crash as he approached the scene because it had occurred after an acute “dangerous and blind bend”.
The witness described the position of a warning sign for motorists which was located 104 metres from the crash as “totally inadequate and unsatisfactory”.
The trial continues today.
