More than half the French public are rather confident in the future of the euro currency after its cash launch but a majority said it has led to price increases in shops, according to a poll due for release tomorrow.
The survey for the
Journal du Dimanche
weekly showed 57 per cent were rather confident after the launch on January 1st, with just 14 per cent rather worried.
The remainder of the 1,021 sample gave no response or said they were not sure.
Polls conducted before the launch on December 28th, showed 38 per cent were confident over the shift.
The survey also showed 56 per cent of those polled believed prices had risen in supermarkets as a result of the launch. The percentage rose to 60 per cent when they were asked about prices in small shops.
