FIANNA FAIL support has dropped to a 40 per cent share of the vote, down seven points on three weeks ago, making the party the main loser in the recent political controversy, according to an opinion poll published today.
Fine Gael gained a point to reach 25 per cent, the same as its 1992 general election result. Labour remained at 12 per cent; Progressive Democrats were up four percentage points on 11 per cent; Greens were up one at 4 per cent; independents were up two at 4 per cent; the Workers' Party was up one at 2 per cent; Democratic Left was unchanged at 1 per cent and Sinn Fein was down two points at 1 per cent.
The Government's satisfaction rating was 42 per cent, down four points.
Fianna Fail got a 21 per cent rating as "most untrustworthy" with Fine Gael on 14 per cent. FF also was assessed as "most politically corrupt" by 21 per cent of voters compared to FG on 15 per cent. And 23 per cent of voters said FF was "most devious" of the parties compared to 11 per cent in regard to FG.
The Irish Independent IMS poll was conducted last Tuesday at 75 locations around the country and 1,056 people were surveyed.
