SOME way would be found for the Seanad to debate safety measures for music events attended by large numbers of young people, House leader Mr Maurice Manning assured members.
On the Order of Business, Mr John Dardis (PD) referred to the inquest into the incident in Dublin's Point Theatre which resulted in a young girl losing her life. There had been a suggestion by the jury that a code of practice be drawn up for such events, he said. The relevant Minister should be told of the need to review existing statutory regulations governing the holding of these concerts and to look at the need for any revision that might be needed to ensure the safety of young people attending them.
Mr Manning said Mr Dardis had raised a very important matter. The kind of thing that had happened might not be an isolated incident and might happen again. He would pass on the concern of Mr Dardis and would try to arrange an early debate.
