THE role of Neighbourhood Watch and Community Alert schemes was praised by the Minister of State at the Department of Justice, Ms Joan Burton, yesterday. She was speaking at the presentation of scheme awards, sponsored by Chubb Ireland.
The overall Neighbourhood Watch award went to Willow Park/ Pinewood, Glasnevin, Dublin, which was praised by the judging panel for the co ordination of the scheme.
The Community Alert award went to Listowel, Co Kerry.
Other winners in the Neighbourhood Watch section were Limekiln Farm, Dublin Kinsale, Co Cork; Donegal town Athenry, Co Galway; and Unicare, UCD, Dublin. The overall winner of the Garda Liaison Officer award was Garda Joseph O'Flaherty, of Willow Park, Pinewood, Glasnevin.
Other winners in the Community Alert section were Ballyconnell, Co Cavan; Leskinfere, Gorey, Co Wexford; and Castletownbere, Rossmacowen and Bere Island, Co Cork. Garda Michael Sheehy of Listowel Garda Station received the overall Garda Liaison Officer award in this category.
