A total of 406 commissioned officers in the Permanent Defence Forces (PDF) and the FCA have submitted claims for hearing damage, the Minister for Defence revealed in a written reply. Mr Smith gave the following breakdown: Cadet, three non-serving in the PDF; 2nd Lieut/Ensign, Naval Service, one serving and two non-serving in the FCA, one serving and three non-serving in the PDF; Lieutenant, six serving and seven non-serving in the FCA, 11 serving and 17 non-serving in the PDF;

Captain, 19 serving and 19 non-serving, FCA; 48 serving and 65 non-serving in the PDF; Commandant/Lieut-Commander, Naval Service, 10 serving and 32 non-serving in the FCA, 61 serving and 64 non-serving in the PDF;

Lieut-Colonel/Commander, Naval Service, one non-serving in the FCA, eight serving and 14 non-serving in the PDF; Colonel, four serving and eight non-serving in the PDF; Brig-General, one serving and one non-serving in the PDF;

Lieut-General, one non-serving in the PDF.
