The National Union of Journalists has condemned threats issued by a dissident republican group to a Northern Ireland journalist over the weekend.

Séamus Dooley, Irish secretary of the union, said that the threat had been verified by the Police Service of Northern Ireland to the reporter’s senior editorial manager.

“This is a verifiable threat which is being taken very seriously and is the latest attack on working journalists in Northern Ireland,” he said.

“We welcome the PSNI commitment to improved personal security but we find it deeply disturbing that journalists are still working under such threats.”
