Michelle Mulherin pays further €1,295 for calls to Kenya

Fine Gael TD paid €2,000 in January for calls made to Africa from her Dáil office

Michelle Mulherin TD has paid back a further €1,295 of the cost of a series of calls she made to Africa from her Dáil office between 2011 and 2013.

The latest payment is on top of a €2,000 payment the Fine Gael deputy made in January for calls to Kenya, an Oireachtas spokeswoman confirmed.

Ms Mulherin said that none of the calls to a man she identified as Danson Cole were personal, but she wanted to pay back the full amount to put an end to the issue.

“I have absolutely no problem in making a refund if that’s what is required,” she previously said about the costs.

“In fairness, there’s phone calls listed there to everywhere in the world. We’re a parliament, we’re international as well, and I would like to get more information.

“I’d just like to make the proviso, all calls have been made in the course of my work, nothing else,” she said.

The original cost of the phone bill was raised when an it was discovered that only the most expensive 100 phone calls from 2011 and 2012 had been counted, according to documents released to RTÉ.

A further 30 calls were recorded on the telephone system and added to the total bill.
