The British Home Secretary, Mr Jack Straw, was yesterday heckled as he addressed more than 1,000 police officers at their annual conference in Blackpool. Officers shouted and jeered as Mr Straw made his speech about policing and law and order.
They constantly laughed as he said that the job was a popular one and that wastage of staff was "stable and low".
At one stage he was forced to stop speaking as the delegates at the Police Federation conference started slow clapping.
