Detectives were today granted another 36 hours to question a woman in connection of the murder of a 47-year-old man near Belfast.

The body of Geordie McDowell was found in the Rathcoole area of Newtownabbey on the northern outskirts of Belfast.

Murder squad detectives were called in after his body was found at a flat in Crossreagh Drive on Thursday. Police have until 5 p.m. tomorrow to question the woman in custody.

Mr McDowell is understood to have suffered at least one wound and police believe he may have died as the result of a domestic row.
