British police arrested six men in northern England under anti-terrorism laws yesterday, but the arrests were not directly linked to the July 7th bombings in London, a police spokesman said.
He said the arrests took place in the town of Leeds, West Yorkshire.
A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police said: "At approximately 6pm this evening officers from West Yorkshire Police acted on information received to arrest six men under the Terrorism Act 2000.
"That was at an address in the Beeston area of Leeds.
"As a precautionary measure, the premises have been cordoned off while inquiries and searches at the address continue.
"At this stage, these arrests are not being linked to the incidents in London. However we are working closely with officers from the Metropolitan Police anti-terrorism branch as part of this inquiry."
All six men were in custody, she added.
