The RUC and British army came under sustained petrol bomb attack yesterday evening when they went to Lurgan Golf Club to deal with what police described as an "elaborate bomb hoax".

Several masked men attacked soldiers and police as a bomb disposal unit tried to check out a suspicious object left in the car park of the club by two masked men.

Police said it was a deliberate "come on" attempt to lure police into the area.

There was also a bomb alert on the Belfast-Dublin railway line near Lurgan yesterday evening. Services were disrupted and passengers were ferried by bus from Lurgan to Belfast.
