Harare - Zimbabwean police fired tear-gas and drove hundreds of demonstrators out of central Harare yesterday to break up violent protests against consumer price increases, which left a trail of broken and looted shops. President Robert Mugabe's government responded by ordering millers to reverse a 21 per cent rise in the price of the staple maize meal, and also announced that it would review other recent increases. Parts of the Zimbabwean capital resembled a war zone during yesterday's riots.
