A Dublin card player is in line for a payday of at least $782,115 (€550,400) after securing a place at the final table of the world’s biggest poker tournament.
Eoghan O’Dea (26), a full-time poker player from Dalkey, yesterday confirmed his place among the “November nine” at the main event at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, which began 13 days ago with a field of 6,685 players. The winner will take home $8,711,956.
He follows in the footsteps of his father, Donnacha O’Dea, in reaching the final table of the main event. In 1983, Mr O’Dea finished sixth and in 1991 he finished ninth. He went out in the early stages of this year’s tournament.
