A DUBLIN youth tried to rob a post office by pretending to be the victim of an assault, Swords District Court heard yesterday.

Paul Gorman (17), of Glin Road, Priorswood, Dublin, pleaded guilty to attempting to rob Priorswood post office on August 23rd.

Garda Colm Murphy said Gorman went into the post office pretending to be a customer. Then another youth came in, put an implement to his throat and threatened to injure him if he was not given money. When no money was handed over, both men ran away.

"This is a new angle, a sham hostage situation. He's getting no Oscars from me," said Judge Sean Delap.
