Vanimo - The Papua New Guinea lagoon that became a grave for thousands of tidal wave victims is to be destroyed because of the mounting health threat to survivors, officials said yesterday.
The risk was now too high for soldiers who for a week have searched the grisly scene for decomposing corpses, armed with only shovels and paper masks, said Col Tokam Kanene.
Meanwhile terrified survivors of the tsunami disaster vowed never to return to their haunted villages, which they believe were destroyed by evil spirits conjured up in black magic ceremonies.
