WASHINGTON - A Swiss government official promised yesterday that Switzerland would press ahead swiftly with an investigation into assets left in Swiss banks by victims of the Jewish Holocaust.
Mr Thomas Borer, head of a task force co ordinating the investigation, told a House of Representatives committee that "it is our intention and expectation that we will conclude our investigation within two to three years." Mr Borer was testifying to the House Banking Committee as the Swiss parliament gave final approval for a study of Swiss financial dealings with Nazi Germany and the fate of Jewish assets.
