The girlfriend of a club doorman shot dead in front of her as she lay in bed exactly a year ago appealed today for help in snaring his killers.

Bryan McGlynn (28) was murdered in his home in Derry in the middle of the night in what police said was a cold blooded execution.

He was lying sleeping beside his girlfriend when a gunman smashed his way into the house in the Fountain Hill area and shot him dead in the early hours of Sunday June 3rd 2007.

Jennifer Cowley said she still grieved for him one year on.

“Bryan and I had a wonderful relationship and I miss him very much. I still cannot understand who this happened and I cannot put that night out of my mind. I remember Bryan’s shooting as if it happened just yesterday,” she said.

Ms Cowley pleaded: “If there is someone out there who knows who killed Bryan they should call the police. It has been a year now and Bryan’s family deserves justice for what has been done.”

She joined police as they made a special anniversary appeal for information about the unsolved murder.

Det Chief Insp Frankie Taylor, of the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team said it was time for those who know what happened to come forward and name the killers.

“Bryan and his young girlfriend Jennifer were asleep in bed. They were woken by a crashing sound. Bryan got up to investigate and get dressed.

“As he did this, a masked man entered the couple’s bedroom and shot him. He fell to the floor in front of his terrified girlfriend and died at the scene,” he said.

Mr Taylor added: “This was a shocking and disgraceful cold-blooded execution.”

Twelve months on, he said, he was making a direct appeal to the community: “If you know what happened to Bryan, or you know who killed him, you must come forward and talk to us.”

CCTV footage of the Fountain Hill area of Derry showed that despite the lateness of the hour - 3.30am - there were quite a few people in the area and they should provide any information they had.

Two cars had been seen travelling around the area both before and after the killing.

A Vauxhall Corsa with distinctive metallic purple/blue paintwork and a dark Ford Escort hatchback had been captured on CCTV.
