Planning for a 37-storey tower block on the site of the Jurys/Berkeley Court site in Dublin 4 by property developer Sean Dunne has been refused by Dublin City Council.
The council has also refused permission for an office block on the same site. However, it granted planning for an 18-storey building fronting on to Shelbourne Road and a 232-bedroom hotel.
Permission was also granted for 294 family-sized apartments, a shopping centre and cultural centre.
In a statement today Mr Dunne said he would appeal the decision to refuse planning permission to An Bord Pleanála and that construction on the project will not start planning is secured for the entire development.
Mr Dunne welcomed the decision to approve the 18-storey building on the site and added that the decision to grant permission for a 15-storey building on the adjoining Veterinary College site indicates a willingness to increase height and density in the city.
