A marketing strategy for Galway city and county, which aims to generate £83 million in tourism related income over the next five years, has been launched in the city.
The Galway 2000 marketing initiative is aimed at winning a greater share of Ireland's tourism revenue. Tourism growth in the west is only one eighth of that nationally.
While the county currently attracts 1.5 million visitors per annum, the initiative hopes to increase the figure dramatically.
The venture is supported by Galway City and County Councils, Bord Failte, Ireland West Tourism, Udaras na Gaeltachta, and major businesses.
