Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres pressed ahead today with plans to hold truce talks, despite a wave of Arab attacks and Israeli military reprisals.
Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Pique said Mr Peres had told him he planned to meet Mr Arafat somewhere on the border between Israel and the Palestinian territories tomorrow night.
"I have just had a conversation with...Peres," he said in comments carried by Spanish state television.
"He confirmed to me that, unless there are new circumstances and despite the severity of the situation, the meeting will take place tomorrow night somewhere on the frontier of the territories and Israel."
Later in Jerusalem, Mr Peres told reporters: "We have agreed on a day but it's not clear where it will be held. We (Israel) would like it to be a meeting in a place where there is less media presence...we think it should be a place where the two partners will feel equally free."
