Activists campaigning for people power are taking to the streets of Ireland today to tackle the issues affecting residents' lives.

The People Before Profit Alliance is holding a public information day in towns around the country.

Stalls will be set up in a number of locations including Dun Laoghaire, Ballyfermot, Arcane, and Galway. "More and more people getting angrier about issues and the political establishment, but we believe if they are active in their approach things can be changed," said spokesperson Rory Hearn.

"The People Before Profit Alliance is campaigning for People Power as the alternative.

"We are taking to the streets to talk to people about the alliance, about the issues we are campaigning on and to listen to what issues are affecting them."

The organisation was set up October 2005 by workers from a variety of local groups and represents a different form of politics.

It believes real change is brought about only when people take action themselves, and is currently supporting the Shell to Sea Campaign, the Irish Anti-War Movement, the Anti-Bin Tax Campaign, Justice for the Stardust Victims and trade union strikes and action for better conditions for workers.
