PUBLISHER and president's son John Kennedy Jnr has married Carolyn Bessette on a Georgia island, according to a television report from Florida.
The love affair between the man People magazine once dubbed the sexiest man alive" and blonde Ms Bessette was reportedly on the rocks as recently as this month.
Those rumours had replaced reports last month that Mr Kennedy was looking to buy a ruby wedding ring just like his mother's. And the New York Daily News reported last week that Ms Bessette had bought a wedding dress from designer Vera Yang.
The wedding took place late on Saturday afternoon in a chapel on Cumberland Island near Georgia, NBC affiliate, WTLV, reported. The report said the couple celebrated the event at a "huge" private party under tents.
The station reported that the Grayfield Inn, where it said the Kennedys were staying, would not confirm the story, but the manager of a restaurant that catered for the event said her staff told her Kennedy and Bessette were married.
The television station said Kennedy family members, including Senator Ted Kennedy, were at the ceremony.
Mr Kennedy (35), a former New York prosecutor who passed the bar exam only after two failed attempts, publishes the year old magazine, George, a light political glossy.
Mr Kennedy, who was almost three when his father was assassinated, inherited his parents good looks and his mother's skill at using a combination of privacy and publicity to generate "hot press" for the magazine.
Ms Bessett, a native of Boston, recently quit her job as a publicist for Calvin Klein.
