IN A centre city concert tent, Georgia's very own screaming senior citizen, Mister James Brown, the Godfather of Soul brought the Olympic city of Atlanta back to life after a nightmare weekend. Soul Man, Sex Machine, Get Up ... Brown did them all.

Niels Laulund Henriksen and Thomas Poulsen from Denmark liked Brown so much they climbed on stage and hung around his neck the gold medals they had won in the rowing that afternoon.

Opera superstars Jose Carreras and Placido Domingo will join pop star Diana Ross this evening for a concert in seven languages which is competing with Michael Jackson and Tina Turner for the title of Hungary's concert of the year.

Diana Ross brought 15 evening dresses for the concert celebrating the 1,100th anniversary of Hungary's foundation.

A woman has been appointed for the first time as press secretary to Prince Charles. Sandy Henney (44), who has worked as a spokeswoman for Scotland Yard, the Ministry of Defence and the Crown Prosecution Service, succeeds Allan Percival (45), who becomes John Major's deputy press secretary.

Last night Prince Charles paid a warm personal tribute to Hollywood star Sir Anthony Hopkins as he renamed a theatre in his honour. The Prince of Wales was attending the European premiere of Sir Anthony's first film as a director, August at Theatre Clwyd in Mold, North Wales.

The theatre, which was threatened with closure until a rescue package five months ago, is to be known as the Sir Anthony Hopkins Theatre from now on.

The actor directed the film, an adaptation of Chekhov's Uncle Vaiyo filming entirely on location on the Lleyn Peninstila in North Wales.

Police in Scotland have announced plans for handling the 80,000 Oasis fans set to converge on Loch Lomond this weekend for two open air concerts. Both concerts were a complete sell out.
