PRINCESS DIANA turned 35 yesterday. She spent the day quietly with her eldest son Prince William in her Kensington Palace apartment.

Former Beatle Ringo Starr and country music legend Willie Nelson turned up unannounced at a small benefit in a local park in Ontario and joined forces for a few impromptu tunes.

The duo signed autographs for fans and were coaxed on to a makeshift stage in the back of a flat bed truck.

Veteran actor Anthony Quinn (81) is in satisfactory condition in the heart unit of a Rhode Island hospital.

A spokesman declined to say what Quinn was suffering from and said he was unsure how long the star of Zorba the Greek would remain in the hospital. Quinn underwent heart bypass surgery in 1990.

Imelda Marcos, widow of former Philippines dictator Ferdinand Marcos, has been admitted to a Manila hospital two days before her 67th birthday with an eye problem.

Marcos, who is on bail from a 1993 conviction for corruption, was attending a fiesta in her home province of Leyte last when she complained her eyes were "swelling".

Veteran radio and stage actor Alfred Marks has died. He was aged 75.
