VETERAN US film director Robert Altman (21), has been made a Knight of the Legion of Honour, one of France's highest distinctions.
Cannes festival organiser Gilles Jacob, acting for President Jacques Chirac pinned the medal, rarely bestowed on foreign film makers, to Altman's lapel at a brief ceremony in the Carlton Hotel.
Actor Jimmy Stewart turned 88 yesterday but feels less than wonderful since hitting his head in a fall last December, according to Daily Variety columnist Army Archerd.
