CHRISTIE'S auction house yesterday unveiled the 80 ballgowns and cocktail dresses to be sold for charity by Princess Diana.
The designer gowns, including a blue velvet dress in which Diana danced at the White House with John Travolta, are to be auctioned in New York in June. The sale could realise over £1 million for AIDS and cancer charities.
The Spice Girls won the Best Single prize at the annual Brit Awards for their first hit Wannabe, which has topped charts across the planet, culminating in a number one in the US. And they won the Best Video award for their song Say You'll Be There.
The crowd laughed when Mel C challenged Liam Gallagher: "Come and have a go, if you think you're hard enough." Gallagher had earlier said he was staying away from the Brits because otherwise he might "chin the Spice Girls".
Elizabeth Taylor is recovering after doctors removed a tumour from the lining of her brain. "She has been progressing beautifully," her spokeswoman said.
Taylor, who turns 65 tomorrow, has been accepting visitors and speaking on the phone with wellwishers, including Michael Jackson who also sent flowers.
Bernard Tapie (54), serving an eight-month sentence in Luynes for a football match-fixing scandal in 1993, has been transferred at his own request from solitary confinement to be housed with other inmates.
But prison guards are to check on him every 30 minutes out of concern for his psychological state, a police source said.
Charlie Sheen (31) has pleaded not guilty to allegedly attacking his girlfriend Brittany Ashland. The son of Martin Sheen and brother of Emilio Estevez will face trial in Los Angeles next month.
Sheen, who starred in Wall Street, Platoon and Hot Shots, has been free on bail since his arrest in December.
