THE Duchess of Braganza, wife of the 50 year old pretender to the Portuguese throne, gave birth to a boy in a Lisbon hospital yesterday.
The pretender, a former fighter pilot, bears a striking resemblance to Portugal's last king Dom Manuel II who fled into exile in Britain after a military coup in 1910. The duke's heir will probably be called Afonso or Dinis.
