SUPERMODEL Claudia Schiffer told of her surprise at international fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier's description of her as "last year's model" and having no personality. Speaking at the launch of her new fitness video in London yesterday, the 25 year old fiancee of millionaire magician David Copperfield seemed stunned by Mr Gaultier's jibes which appear in this month's Company magazine.
The father of German tennis star Steffi Graf failed yesterday in a new attempt to be allowed out of prison while public prosecutors investigate a multi million dollar tax evasion case which also targets her. A judge in the south western city of Mannheim, where Peter Graf is being held, ruled that the player's father should stay in prison.
Sweden's King Carl Gustaf will visit South Africa from February 2nd to 11th as part of a Swedish trade delegation trip aimed at boosting bilateral trade relations. The visit is being organised by the Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, of which the king is patron.
German grandfather Josef Jacobs declared himself the world's oldest student yesterday after completing a doctorate at Frankfurt university just short of his 100th birthday. Mr Jacobs, who is 100 on January 15th, finished his first degree aged 93.
The long running legal wrangle between actor Stephen Fry and the producer of the ill fated play Cell Mates which closed when the actor fled to Europe has been settled.
Mr Fry has not had to pay the £500,000 compensation demanded by producer Duncan Weldon and has made a token payment of £20,000. Instead insurers have paid Mr Weldon £255,000 after scrutiny of a psychiatrist's report on the actor and writer.
