CUBAN President Fidel Castro toured Rome's ancient Forum yesterday and admired the Colosseum before departing for, Havana, ending a high profile visit which included an historic meeting with Pope John Paul.
Punch editor Peter McKay has been dismissed. A spokesman for Stewart Steven, chairman of Punch publishers Liberty Ltd, said the action came after "contractual differences" could not be resolved.
McKay was editor for only two months, after the satirical magazine was given a £3 million relaunch in September. Before editing Punch, he was editor of Sunday Today and a columnist on the Evening Standard.
Roy Hattersley was yesterday fined a total of £75 after his dog killed a goose in a royal park.
The former deputy leader of the Labour Party was not present at Bow Street Magistrates Court in London, and pleaded guilty by letter.
He was charged on one count of allowing his dog Buster to worry wildfowl and one count of letting his dog off the leash in St James's Park in April, both breaches of royal park regulations.
Sean Connery has called on the people of Scotland to seize their independence and build on the Stone of Destiny's return to their country.
Connery claimed its return resulted from London jitters and said: "We need more than symbols in Scotland. We need real power and a real parliament."
