The pedestrian, in his early 20s, was struck by a vehicle which failed to stop at Tiernaleague in Carndonagh.
The road was sealed off for technical examinations and a postmortem is to be carried out at Letterkenny General Hospital by the deputy State pathologist.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Buncrana Garda station.
