A 75-year-old woman died yesterday when she got caught in the wheels of an articulated truck while crossing a busy street in Castleisland, Co Kerry.
The local woman, from a business family, is not being named officially until gardaí contact her relatives.
She was attempting to cross the street at Lower Main Street to a restaurant at around 12.25 p.m., when she collided with the truck.
The woman was caught in the wheels and dragged a short distance. The driver was alerted by pedestrians to what had occurred. He was being treated for shock last night.
Gardaí are appealing for any person who may have witnessed this incident to contact them at Castleisland on 066-7141204. They are appealing in particular to motorists who may have seen the incident.
The street forms part of the main Dublin road.
