A verdict of accidental death has been recorded on a woman who died three days after undergoing a hysterectomy at the Mayo General Hospital.
Mrs Finbarre Lambe (54), Tavanaghmore, Foxford, a mother of one, died last February after collapsing in the gynaecology ward in the hospital.
A cardiac arrest team was called and resuscitated her. She was rushed to intensive care but died a short time later.
Two consultants, three doctors and one nurse gave evidence at the inquest in Westport which heard that Mrs Lambe had been recovering well for the first two days after her operation.
The cause of death was given as pulmonary embolism.
Extending sympathy to the family, south Mayo coroner Mr John O'Dwyer returned a verdict of accidental death.
He said there was nothing to indicate she had not been properly treated and cared for at the hospital.
