The parents of the premature baby found buried in a bog at Carndonagh, Co Donegal, on Friday have been located by gardai. The mother is in her late teens while her partner is in his 20s. Both are from Inishowen in north Donegal.
The baby's body was found by a farmer who was tending turf on isolated bogland three miles outside town. The parents were located by gardai who called to a house early yesterday following information they had received. Garda Supt Tom Murphy of Buncrana said the parents were receiving counselling. "This is a very sad and tragic case for the parents and the families involved.
"It was a great burden off the mother's shoulders when we met her and I am very pleased with how both of them doing," he said. Supt Murphy appealed for compassion from the public. "The arrangements for the burial have not yet been confirmed but we expect it to happen in the next few days when both families are ready. It's a difficult time for them and I appeal to everyone to give them the space they need," he said.
