Defending Paralympic champion and world record holder Jody Cundy turned the air blue on live television after being disqualified in the velodrome.
British cyclist Cundy (33) was apoplectic with rage when he was refused a restart in the Men's Individual C4-5 1km time trial, his favourite event, having won gold in Beijing.
He could be heard saying “I’ve wasted four years of my f*****g life” as he was led away from the velodrome by a team member.
Cundy slipped from the starting block at the start of the time trial. He blamed the starting gate, but the cycling commissar refused him a restart.
He went on: “I fell out of the gate because the f*****g gate didn't open. I've wasted four years of my life to ride in front of 6,000 people. Do you know what it's like to dedicate four years of your life. . . . I can't even express it, there aren't the f*****g words.
“'I'll never ever get this opportunity again, never, ever. What am I supposed to do now?'” He signed off with a “f*** that.”
Later, having calmed, down Cundy returned to the crowd to apologise for his behaviour.
The cyclist, who had his leg amputated below the knee when he was three, won three Paralymic golds in Beijing. He was looking forward to competing against outspoken British rival Jon-Allan Butterworth, a former weapons technician, who lost an arm in Iraq, and who was then in the silver medal position.
The race was won in a world record time by teenage Spanish cyclist Alfonso Cabello.
