Israeli soldiers shot dead a Palestinian in a clash in a West Bank village today, Palestinian witnesses and hospital sources said.
They said Madi Ishtayeh, 26, was killed in Salem, near the city of Nablus, during a confrontation between the soldiers and Palestinian stone-throwers.
The army said it closed the village for four hours today after shots were fired towards a nearby Jewish settlement. It said about 300 Palestinians threw stones at soldiers, who responded with rubber-coated metal bullets and tear gas.
