A Palestinian gunmaninfiltrated a Jewish settlement in the West Bank tonight, wounding six people before being shot dead,according to Israelisecurity sources.
Two children were among the casualties in theattack on Hermesh which is located in the northern West Bank.
A settler representative told Israel Radio the gunmanapparently struck at one of the settlement playgrounds. "To allappearances, the terrorist was killed," Benzi Lieberman said.
Israeli Channel One television said the gunman was killed bytwo soldiers guarding the settlement. The army had no immediatecomment.
Palestinians waging a two-year-old independence uprising inthe West Bank and Gaza Strip have frequently targeted Jewishsettlements which are deemed illegal by Palestinians and by the international community alike.Many settlers are armed and reinforced by the army.
