Irish bookmaking chain, Paddy Power has entered the Scottish retail sector after opening its first high street licensed betting office in Glasgow today.

The chain, which has almost 200 shops in the Republic, plans to open over 80 shops across Scotland and other British locations by 2011, increasing its total UK estate to at least 150 shops.

The first Paddy Power shop opens today on Cambridge Street, Glasgow with further openings in Gilmour Street on Valentine's Day and Duke Street at the begining of March.

Paddy investment in Scotland and other UK locations will see the creation of over 400 new jobs and an investment of £16-20m by 2011.
