The former trade unionist and founding member of the SDLP, Mr Paddy Devlin, has received an honorary degree from the University of Ulster.
At the ceremony in Coleraine, Co Derry, yesterday, Mr Devlin's "unself consciousness and anti sectarianism" were praised by Dr Terry Cradden, head of the school of business. "They have always been his greatest contribution to our political life, as well as his most warming personal qualities."
Mr Devlin, a former Stormont MP, was a member of the short lived 1974 power sharing executive.
