Garda Insp Pat O'Sullivan told how a second woman, Ms Miriam O'Sullivan Darcy, arrived on the scene.

The two Alsatians then turned on her, pinned her against a gate and bit her on the thigh.

Larkin pleaded guilty to the charges relating to failure to have the dogs accompanied, under control or on leash, and securely muzzled in a public place.

Mr Louis O'Connell, solicitor for Larkin, told the court there was "an unfortunate set of circumstances". Larkin owned a premises with her husband on the Countess Road. They had the dogs within a compound. "A third party must have opened the gates . . . there was no malice involved," Mr O'Connell said.
