Liverpool and England striker Michael Owen will definitely miss England's World Cup qualifier with Greece after he limped out of yesterday’s win over Tottenham with a pulled hamstring.
Liverpool coach Gerard Houllier said Owen is set to miss the October 6th World Cup qualifier against Greece which England must win to guarantee automatic qualification for next summer's finals.
Owen, whose brilliant hat-trick sank Germany in Munich earlier this month, had only been on the pitch for a handful of minutes as a substitute when he pulled a hamstring after stretching to shoot wide.
Houllier said the Premiership's leading scorer, who left Anfield Saturday evening on crutches, could be out for several weeks.
He added: "It's the hamstring in his left leg, he will be out for a number of weeks.
"I feared the worst when he didn't get up after missing that chance. It's his left leg. To be fair, he's had trouble with both hamstrings in the past but not now for some time.
"He said he felt something go as he went to shoot.
"We will not know for sure the extent of the injury until after he's had a scan on Sunday. But I feel it is just a pull rather that a more serious tear.
Owen previously had to endure similar hamstring trouble two seasons ago but bounced back and this season he has been in stunning form for both club and country.
