MORE THAN 300 entries have been received for the Bord Gáis National Media Awards, which take place in Dublin next month.
The organisers say the awards “recognise excellence in the Irish media and reward Irish journalists whose commitment to quality, ethics and distinction best informs the Irish people and nation.”
Fourteen awards will be presented on the night in writing categories such as: politics/current affairs, business, arts, sports, Irish language, disability, opinion and public interest.
The winners will be selected by a panel which includes RTÉ sports presenter Bill O'Herlihy, the former editor of The Irish TimesConor Brady and Barnardos chief executive Fergus Finlay.
This is the first time the awards have been held since 2004, and organiser Ian Hyland said he was delighted with the response it has received.
“There has been a tremendous response to the call for entries with over 300 nominations received from the top media outlets in the country,” he said.
The shortlist for the competition is to be announced on May 28th and the awards are to be presented at a reception in Trinity College Dublin on June 29th.
All proceeds raised through the awards ceremony will go to the Chernobyl Children’s Project International.
