A Shannon-based telecommunications company and a concrete manufacturing plant in Co Offaly announced plans this morning to cut their workforces by more than half.
Finnish-owned telecommunications company, Technotree has announced that it is to make half its workforce of 143 redundant.
The company's assistant managing director, Liam Keane confirmed to staff this morning that 80 jobs will be lost at the plant.
It is a fresh blow for the Shannon area following yesterday's announcement that GE Money is cutting 50 jobs at its Shannon plant.
Currently, management and unions at Element Six are in a stand-off position over the redundancy of 207 workers at a plant in the town.
Meanwhile, 30 jobs are to go before the end of the year at Condron Concrete, producers of concrete pipes in Tullamore, Co Offaly.
The first wave of redundancies will take affect later this month while the remainder of the jobs will go nearer to Christmas.
