Armed raiders got away with more than £10,000 after holding up a bank a short distance from the Border in Castlefinn, Co Donegal, at lunchtime yesterday.
Gardai said two armed men wearing balaclavas approached staff in the National Irish Bank on the Diamond in Castlefinn as it was about to close at 12.30 p.m. Supt Jim Gallagher said that a staff member was led back inside the bank. "They took a fairly sizeable amount of cash," he said.
The raiders escaped towards Lifford in a white Transit van, 93 D 4375, and gardai are asking anybody who saw it to come forward. They later transferred to a Blue Vauxhall Nova.
