The Abortion Information Act should be reviewed and abortion referrals outlawed in the light of the latest figures, says the Pro Life Campaign. "In the 12 months after the Act became law, the abortion rates rise by 7 per cent," a statement said. But figures for the second quarter of 1996 showed a 13.5 per cent rise on the same period of 1995.
"While proper counselling will reduce abortion figures, abortion referral - which Mr Noonan legalised - can only increase the rates. The ProLife Campaign calls upon the Government to review the Act so that proper counselling is made available, but abortion referral is outlawed."
