Killarney is to pursue plans to create an outdoor gym specifically for its senior citizens. The approach to the OPW, owners of the Killarney National Park, will be made by council officials following a town council meeting,
Fine Gael councillor Cathal Walshe said an active retired group had over 70 members keen on the outdoors. A €500,000 pathway cycle and walking lane has been put in place this summer from the town centre and plans are under way to extend this around Killarney’s largest lake, Lough Lein. Work has already begun on cutting rhododendron to facilitate the path on the lake’s western shores. “The nearest outdoor gym is in Cork. We are keen to create a facility by the river in the midst of nature,” Mr Walshe said. ANNE LUCEY
