A test action over an RUC curfew on Belfast's lower Ormeau Road four years ago was settled in the Belfast High Court yesterday.
The terms were not revealed but it is understood that Mr Sean Beckett, the Lower Ormeau resident who brought the case, is to receive damages.
About 700 other residents were confined to their homes in July, 1996, when police sealed off side streets for the annual Orange parade.
Mr Beckett's action was against the RUC Chief Constable and the Secretary of State.
He claimed that he was confined to his flat from 6.00 p.m. on July 11th until early afternoon the next day.
He said that early on the 12th a police Land-Rover was parked tight against the wall blocking his exit.
Mr Beckett claimed he was pushed and shoved away from police cordons and was also subjected to verbal abuse.
After talks between lawyers for both sides the settlement was announced by Mr Michael Lavery QC, for Mr Beckett.
