Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown County Council was given leave High Court yesterday to an injunction on Monday to force a number of travelling families to leave a portion of Ballyogan Estate, Carrickmines, Co Dublin.

Mr Richard Whelan, a senior staff officer with the housing department, in an affidavit, said the council owned about 251 houses on the estate. The majority the occupiers rented the dwellings from the council.

A number of traveller families had occupied a portion of the estate and the continued occupation had caused friction between the residents and the travellers.
