People speaking on behalf of the Opposition have used the recent series of unrelated murders to score political points, the chairman of Fine Gael said yesterday. Mr Phil Hogan TD said the point scoring was at its most cynical when an opposition spokesperson used the murder of Joyce Quinn in Kildare to suggest there was a serial killer in the area.
Mr Hogan said there had never any evidence of a serial killer and the spokesperson never offered an apology for the "irresponsible statement".
